About Alana

I've been on both sides of that kitchen table.

Alana Edwards, founder of Steady Minds Learning, smiling at a desk with a notebook

I've taught in secondary schools for over 15 years, including seven in learning support. For the last five, I've been the coordinator who writes Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and learning plans, and keeps track of the support each student gets.

I'm also the parent of two neurodivergent children. I've sat with the same reports at my own kitchen table, trying to make sense of what any of it meant for the next morning.

A friend understood her son's report perfectly. What she couldn't work out was what to do differently at home. Then another asked the same thing. Turns out everyone had a folder, and nobody had a translation.

That's how this began: one folder at a time.

I write IEPs and learning plans for schools. I live with these documents at home. That's why I can tell you what yours means for homework at your place.

I work alongside, not instead of

Tutors, OTs, psychologists and advocates each bring their own expertise. My part is turning what you already know about your child’s learning into practical tools for home.

If you’re already seeing someone, bring what they’ve given you. Their recommendations help shape what I build.

“Alana is one of the most intelligent and genuinely caring teachers I've met. Her experience, insight and compassion shine through.”
